In a small pan, combine the water and sugar. Heat it gently and stir without stopping until it just starts bubbling—should take around 3 minutes. Make sure the sugar completely dissolves so the mixture is smooth and clear.

Take the pan off the stove as soon as the sugar is fully melted. Mix in the vanilla paste or extract to give it that rich, sweet vanilla touch.

Pour the syrup into a clean jar or similar container. Give it time to cool down to room temperature before closing it tightly. Pop it in the fridge, where it'll last up to a month.
